In August 2023, I was approached by professional magician Pavel Dolejška with an unusual request – to build a “vanishing” radio in a vintage style. Exactly the kind of challenge I dreamed of since childhood. What I lacked then was motivation and opportunity. This time, I didn’t hesitate for a second.
That very evening, I started researching historical and contemporary radios. I was immediately drawn to a first-half-20th-century radio by the renowned Thayer company. Not only did it have the authentic period look, but it also operated on a different principle from modern magic props. It was a simple yet technically demanding system – and that’s what intrigued me.
What inspired me most about Thayer was that their magic radio remains fully functional even after more than 100 years. That motivated me to create an equally durable and high‑quality prop that will last for decades and withstand countless performances.
What I wanted to improve:
- Authentic design details
- Rounded corners evoking the massiveness of old wood radios
- Different tabletop color for visual contrast
- The radio must play and light up to look real
- Powered by cable – just like the originals, no batteries
- Even when lifted off the table, it should continue to play and glow under the fabric cover
That night, I drew the first sketch – dimensionally inspired by the original Thayer radio.

When I showed it to Pavel, he was thrilled. He immediately commissioned it, and invited Austrian magician Wolfgang Moser – who owns the original Thayer – to consult. After technical discussions, the first prototype was ready in October 2023.

The radio received great acclaim. Pavel showed it to his magic colleagues, and orders followed. Each new unit brought improvements – quieter operation, better electronics, improved fabric cover. Early customers kindly shared their feedback.
Model 2024 – Final Version
At the beginning of 2024, I introduced a new version: redesigned front panel and adjusted dimensions. Today, I can confidently say I’m satisfied with this radio – and that’s why I’m now offering it to you.
Every piece is handcrafted in small batches with attention to detail. Delivery times will be specified based on customer interest.
